Why I Meditate - And why your brain and body will love it too.
Ever feel like your brain just won’t turn off? Like you’ve got too many tabs open at once?
And maybe your body feels it too, tight shoulders, shallow breathing, trouble relaxing, or that constant “on edge” feeling.
You’re not alone. In today’s fast-paced world, that constant mental and physical tension has become the norm but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
For me, meditation has become one of the simplest, most powerful tools to support a calm, healthy brain and a regulated, relaxed body.
A few minutes per day can make a great difference!
Why Try Meditation?
Think of meditation as a reset button for your entire nervous system, not just your mind.
When you pause, breathe, and give yourself space, your brain begins to settle… and your body follows.
Research shows that meditation can:
✔️ Reduce stress and anxiety
✔️ Improve focus and memory
✔️ Help you sleep better
✔️ Support emotional balance
✔️ Increase grey matter (hello brain power!)
✔️ Lower muscle tension and calm the body
✔️ Support better breathing and heart rate regulation
From a neurotherapy perspective, this is powerful. We’re helping the brain shift into a more balanced state, and when that happens, the body can finally come out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and restore.”
A few slow breaths can RESET
The Best Part? It’s Simple.
You don’t need to sit cross-legged for hours or completely “empty your mind.”
Meditation can be accessible, realistic, and supportive for both your mental and physical health.
How to Start (Even If You’re a Beginner)
If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t meditate, my mind is too busy”. This is for you.
1. Start with just 2 minutes
Sit quietly, focus on your breath, and notice your body. Let your shoulders drop, unclench your jaw, soften your belly.
2. Use an app
Guided apps can make it easier to stay focused. Try Calm, Insight Timer, or Headspace.
3. Let thoughts come and go
Your mind will wander—that’s normal. Each time you bring it back, you’re training your brain and teaching your body it’s safe to relax.
4. Be consistent
A few minutes a day can create meaningful shifts over time in how you think, feel, and physically respond to stress.
A short walk can be your meditation to reset the mind and body.
A Gentle Reminder
Meditation is a practice, not a performance.
It’s not about having no thoughts. It’s about creating space, awareness, and safety within your nervous system.
And when your nervous system feels safe, both your brain and your body can function at their best.
So whether you’re a skeptic, a curious first-timer, or someone who swears by their weekly adjustment, chiropractic care is worth understanding beyond the clichés. At the very least, it invites us to pay closer attention to how we move, sit, and carry ourselves every day.
And honestly, that awareness alone might be the first step toward feeling better.
